Something new is on the horizon for our family. If you have been reading the last few posts on Homeschool 4 Life, you will know that there have been a lot things happening in our lives personally lately. Nothing bad, of course. Just change. I don't usually do so well with change. I like predictability. I like usual. Do I like to change things up a bit? Sure. But, that usually means something small and unimportant. Not lately for us here in the Mollohan home.
We bought a new-to-us home in June. There was a lot of learning while moving going on here. Moving is a HUGE change. We were ready for it - as much as you can be ready to move. There are always those last minute things that could drive you crazy. For example we were just going to get projects done, like painting, changing lights, etc. and then move in after about a month or so since we still had the apartment we were living in. Ummm...that didn't go as planned. Once we were in, we wanted to stay. So, after about a week of closing, we were moving in. Nothing packed, nothing cleaned. Just moved. Thank goodness for the aide of my parents because we were actually able to move our entire house in about 2 days. Whew!
I hinted at another part of my life that was going to possibly be new in my last Five Minute Friday Post, "Comfort". I can now officially state that I have been hired as an online teacher for VIPKID. I will be teaching English to Chinese children over the internet. I only have to send in some paperwork and pictures and then it's off to the races! I am happy for this opportunity to be able to do something that I love while also bringing in some extra income for our family - all while sitting in the comfort of my new bedroom.
I love that it changes our lives in a minor way. What does that mean? Well, if I was to go get a "normal" job, I would have to leave our home every day, the boys would have to go to public school, and our lives would completely be turned upside down.
Not so with this job. I create my own hours each week. I get to teach from the corner of our bedroom. I get to still homeschool the boys and live life as usual - for the most part. It's the best of both worlds, really.
Am I nervous? Let me think for a nanosecond - YES! Is it change? Of course. But, as far as change goes, it's minor to what it could be. As my husband tells me, "This is an opportunity." Yes, it is! It will take a little getting used to, but after a while, I know that it will be the new "normal".
