Back to School Concerns

August 16, 2016

Here we are. It’s the middle of summer and what am I thinking about? Am I thinking about hanging out in the sun, having fun with my kids? Nope. I’m sitting here thinking about starting school again.

Instead of playing games with my boys, I’m thinking about what I’m going to use for grammar with our 2nd grader. I’m worried about starting middle school level work with our 7th grader instead of relaxing and enjoying the time off with my husband.

Why do we do that? Why do we look forward to finish off the school year, just to worry about the next one? Maybe I’m the only one that does that.

I used to do the same thing when I was teaching in the public school. I would be so excited to finished out the school year. I would then take a couple weeks off to catch up on things at home and then I would start back up getting ready to start the next school year.

I worry and stress about every little detail. I worry about what curriculum to use, what’s our schedule going to look like, when to buy school supplies, etc. I can’t seem to stop thinking about the next school year.

You know what? Everything is going to be fine! It always is. Are there going to be some bumps in

the road? Of course! There always are. But, can we get through them? Yes, because we always do. When something isn’t working, fix it. If your child is struggling with a certain curriculum, change it. You don't have to have every detail of every day for the entire school year planned out and prepped.

Jesus said, in Matthew 6:34,

“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Enjoy each and every day with your family and friends. Spend time planning, then put it aside to enjoy life.
