Dear Homeschool Mom,

I know that it's hard. I know that you're tired.

I want you to know that...

YOU CAN DO THIS!

I'm going to do a little game here.

You might be a homeschool mom if...

* You dread when the alarm clock goes off in the morning

* You drink too much coffee, tea, or soda just to get through the day

* You look, with longing, at the yellow school bus that drives by your house every morning

Now, what about these...

You might be a homeschool mom if...

* You find joy in each accomplishments that your children achieve because you know how hard it was for them to get there

* You get excited at the thought of a sale on "back to school" supplies

* You can teach math to your 3rd grader, read a book aloud to your 3 year old, all while giving the baby a bowl of Cheerios

We homeschool moms are a different breed. We have chosen to take on the responsibility of raising our children as well as educating them. This is a life that we have chosen. But, let me tell you, it's not easy.

You will get mixed signals from different people about what you are doing - the hardest is when it's from family. You will get weird looks when your 5th grader is at the store with you in the middle of the "school" day. Your kids will get sick of other people asking them if school is out for the day. Other people will wonder how your children know what they know when they start talking about Greek Mythology or that 250 page book that they read just last night.

You will also get the satisfaction knowing that you are doing everything that you can to give your children the best opportunity for a great start in life. Will you succeed in everything? Nope. You will struggle. You have weaknesses - but, guess what? Every single person on this earth has weaknesses. It's what you do with them that makes the difference.

Do you struggle with a subject? Get some help. Find a curriculum or online class that teaches it for you. Ask your spouse or a trusted family member or friend to help. Study up on the subject before you go through it with your child. Do whatever it takes in order to give your children the best education in spite of your weaknesses.

Dear Homeschool Mom -

Enjoy the journey! Love on your kids! Pray!
