Reading Through the Gospels in 13 Weeks

January 12, 2017

Have you been wanting your children to start getting into the habit of reading their Bible?

One of the best places in the Bible for kids to start reading is in the gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They are written in a narrative style which makes it like reading a story. This makes it easier for children to read, especially if they’re not used to reading the Bible. The gospels are also a treasure trove of information about Jesus Christ.

What better way to learn about our Lord and Savior than to read about Him in His book?

I have put together this calendar for you to print out and give to your children. This calendar will get your children to read through all four of the gospels in a 13 week time frame. Why 13 weeks? That’s how long a quarter of a year is. This would be great to start at the beginning of the school year from September through November, at the beginning of the year from January through March, or anytime!

The schedule has the kids reading one chapter a week with a couple of make up days thrown in.

There are a few ways you could work this schedule:

  • Depending on the age of your children, you could either read each day's Bible reading together aloud, or taking turns.

  • If your children are old enough and you want them to have some independence with this, just give them their calendar and they can be responsible for it themselves. Just don't forget to check in with them for understanding and to make sure that they are keeping up with the reading.
