Do you ever feel selfish or guilty when you pray? If I’m to be completely honest, sometimes I do. I feel like I am burdening the Lord with my petty problems and needs. But, a few weeks ago, while I was in church, this verse was posted up on the screen during communion time:
Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
This verse came at just the right time. I was struggling with homeschooling and life in general while I sat there trying to pray, but not having the words to speak. Then this verse flashed up on the screen and it just hit me. He wants us to give Him all of our troubles and our worries! Now, this wasn’t an epiphany or anything. I knew this, but really needed to be reminded of it.
When I read this verse I think of fishing. You’re probably thinking, what?!? Hang with me now. I see the word “cast” and think of someone casting out their reel to get a good spot to catch a fish. Now, when I fish, it’s more of a hail Mary throw and hope that it doesn’t land in the plants. That’s what God wants us to do with our burden. He wants us to cast it out to Him and He will take it from there. You don’t need a bunch of pretty words and fancy speak, just say it. Throw it all out there. Trust me! He can handle it.
If you’re struggling with something right now, cast your burden upon the Lord.
Is homeschooling tough right now? Cast your burden upon the Lord.
Are you struggling in your marriage? Cast your burden upon the Lord.
Are you having a hard time managing your kids? Cast your burden upon the Lord.
Are you having trouble managing your household? Cast your burden upon the Lord.
Are your children struggling with school or a life situation? Cast your burden upon the Lord.
I was reminded during my Bible reading this morning about what God said to Joshua right after he took over as leader of the Israelites when Moses died.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
We are to be strong and courageous in whatever we do.
Remember! The Lord is with you wherever you go!
I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!
