For my Take a Look Tuesday post, I wanted to share a few new classes that we are trying out this year.
Our oldest needs to have a Science this year. Yikes! High School Science! We live in Arizona so he is required to take 3 credits of Lab Sciences, which need to include Biology and Chemistry. We haven't figured out what the third one will be, but we have some time before we have to nail that down.
So, since he needs to take Biology, I went on the search for a quality Biology class that would give him the "lab science" portion as well as give him a full credit for high school. Guess which one I chose? Go on - - - guess!
Ok, do you give up yet? Schoolhouseteachers.com has a high school Biology that meets all of my requirements. Hallelujah! We have a subscription to Schoolhouseteachers.com so this course will be FREE for us. What? Yep! Once you have a subscription you get all of their courses for FREE! Did I mention that the class was FREE? Ok, I wanted to make sure that you knew.
So, the only things that we needed to buy for it is a microscope, petri dishes, and iodine. I loved that the microscope came with prepared slides, blank slides, and cover slips, so I didn't have to buy all of those as well. By the middle of the year, I will have to get a dissecting kit for him. These are items that I would have to get for any biology course, so I am not complaining! I was even able to buy the microscope, petri dishes, and iodine on Amazon for less than $70. I was stoked! I don't even have Amazon Prime, but I was able to get it all with FREE Shipping! I am linking to the ones that I bought so that you can check them out, too!
This will be our first time taking a complete course for credit from Schoolhouseteachers.com, so I will keep you informed as our progress.
Our son is interested in coding, video game design, and possibly owning his own company some day, so we have been looking for some classes about coding and/or business for some of his high school elective credits.
We were blessed with being able to review Code for Teens few months ago. We really liked it and so we have decided to make that into a partial credit for coding. I have link our review above if you want to check out what it is. I loved that it was very cost effect as well.
Another online/business course that he will be going through this year is with YouTube. YouTube? Yep, you heard that right. YouTube has a YouTube Academy with lessons and quizzes. There are online classes, business classes, as well as help to make better videos. He wants to learn all of that, so he will be getting credit for completing that as well.
I'm excited to see where this year will take us for high school.
Oh, by the way. Schoolhouseteachers.com is running special right now for Back to School. If you buy a one year subscription for $139, you get a second year for FREE. That's like paying $70 per year for 2 years. That's quite a deal. To be honest, $139 is less than what I would have paid for the biology course from some other companies. With Schoolhouseteachers.com, you get full access to all of their material for your whole family. It really is a wonderful deal! Click HERE to check them out!
