ARTistic Pursuits Inc. Review
I have to be honest. I am not very artistic. I mean, I can make crafts and things, but they never turn out like what I have in my head. I would love to be an artist, but those are not the skills that I have been blessed with. This has hindered my ability to teach art in our homeschool. It didn't really matter with our oldest, because he isn't really interested in art. But, then comes our youngest. He has an eye for artistic things. When I heard that we had an opportunity to review ARTistic Pursuits Art Instruction books with DVD and Blu-Ray by ARTistic Pursuits Inc. I knew that I had to try it out for his sake.
We personally reviewed Art for Children, Building a Visual Vocabulary and I'm glad that we did because he has enjoyed it. I really like the fact that it comes with a DVD and Blu-Ray. Our son really got a kick out of them being on the inside of the book. I'm glad they were there because they are less likely to get lost. There isn't a video for each lesson, but there is a video for lessons 1, 4, 7, 9, 11, and 15.
So we started ARTistic Pursuits by watching the first video. (The picture shown is actually the second video. I forgot to get a picture of the first video. it can't get any better than watching an art video while eating a cookie!). The video was great how they talked about lines. I really liked how they showed how to use the watercolor crayons properly because I had never even heard of them before. The video showed step by step how to do the project. He understood exactly what he was supposed to do. I really like that. I didn't have to decipher what to do for him.
Thank you ARTistic Pursuits Inc. from all of us not artistic homeschool moms. Showing us step by step really helped make this easy for us.
So we got right to work on the first lesson after we finished the video. He was so excited to use his new art supplies. We had Grandma Edie work with us and we all picked items from around the house and started to create. Not too shabby, I think.
I really like that this book and videos teaches you about art. It doesn't just give you a bunch of art projects to do. The lessons usually start with showing you a piece of art from history. I love that! They teach you art through looking at art. Perfect! They talk about artists and what artists do. Artists compose, imagine, observe, communicate, and see many different objects. This really helped us look more closely at the world around us. Each lesson takes maybe 15-20 minutes, depending on how long your child wants to spend creating. This fit into our schedule well.
We really have enjoyed using Art for Children, Building a Visual Vocabulary. They also have other titles. You really need to check out the other reviews to find out more about Art of the Ancients, Art of the Middle Ages, and Artists that Shaped the Italian Renaissance. They sound great!
Using ARTistic Pursuits Art Instruction books with DVD and Blu-Ray by ARTistic Pursuits Inc. has given our son the ability to do more with art and to feel like he's able to do it and to do it well.
