Weigl Publishers Review
Here at Homeschool 4 Life, we love books! Have we told you that yet? Well, in case you didn't know...we love books. When we were given the opportunity to read three digital books by Weigl Publishers, we jumped jumped at the chance to check them out.
We were able to read three digital books. It was really cool to read books on the computer. The books are called "Glaciers" which is good for grades 3-6, "A Lion's World" good for Kindergarten through 2nd graders, and "There Once Was a Cowpoke Who Swallowed an Ant" which is also good for Kindergarten through 2nd graders.
We started with the book "Glaciers" from the series "Earth's Water". I was able to pull it up on our iPad mini. It worked ok, but we had a hard time clicking on all of the extra digital content that makes these books so different.
We decided, after a couple of days, to switch over to the computer. It was fully possible to read and do all of it on the iPad...we just preferred to read the books on our computer. That seemed to work so much better.
Our third grader really liked the "Glaciers" book. We spent about a week doing a couple of pages a day. You see, it's not just an ordinary book. There is a lot of extra material to look through that kept him wanting to do it. He really liked looking at the maps that were linked to the material in the book. There were videos to watch, worksheets to complete as well as Science experiments.
Here is one of the Science experiments that were a part of this book. He was to make a block of ice first. This turned into our "glacier" for the experiment. He really liked doing this as a part of a book.
This book was great for his grade level!
The next book we read was "A Lion's World" which is part of the "EyeDiscover" series. He wanted to read this one because he loves big cats like lions. He liked watching it on the bigger screen of our computer. This book told him the basics about the lions. We really liked when we heard the actual roar of a lion! It was read to him so he could enjoy his bowl of popcorn as he listened and watched. Cool! This book is great for younger children. The level was low for him, but he still really enjoyed it.
For the third book, "There Once Was a Cowpoke Who Swallowed an Ant", I decided to do something a little different. Grandpa Ed has been telling the story of "The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" for years now. This book is based on this same pattern, but written with different animals who do completely different things. I thought it would be great to read the book with Grandma and Grandpa.
So that's what we did. We used my computer to connect the book to their Apple TV so everyone could see. our third grader read the book to everyone. It was very enjoyable. We kept wanting to find out what the next animal was going to be that the cowpoke would eat.
Overall, we liked these books and how they were digital instead of a paper book. This just made it more exciting for our 8 year old. We are glad that we were able to receive the books from Weigl Publishing. You might want to go check them out too!
