Both Jesus and Pontius Pilate used a basin of water within a short time prior to Jesus being nailed to the cross.
In John 13:3-5, Jesus used a basin of water to wash His disciples' feet at His final meal with them just prior to going to the Garden of Gethsemane to be betrayed.
Pilate, in Matthew 27:24, washed his hands in front of the multitude of on-lookers to show he was not responsible for Jesus' death on the cross. He released Barabbas instead of Jesus.
Pilate washed his hands and turned away. Jesus, as a servant, washed the feet of others.
